Quest for Par: Links at Dardenne Jan. 9

I was eager to get back on the course after my first experiment went somewhat poorly with my new irons. However, with the winter in St. Charles County being what it is you have to take what you can get. I finally got back on the course four days later on another windy day. It was definitely and up-and-down day, but my new irons showed signs of life.

I thought I had cracked the code on the first coming out with a perfect hole and a tap-in birdie after a perfect knockdown pitching wedge. However, the rest of the front was a disaster. I only made one par and had two double-bogeys. My ball striking was pretty poor.

After a continuation of shaky play on the back starting out with four straight bogeys, I came alive. I hit a perfect corner-cutting drive over the trees on 14, knocked an easy pitching wedge on the green, and made a long putt for birdie. The short par 5 15th, left me only a 7-iron into the pin after another great 320+ yard drive with the aid of the wind. As a result, I was on in 2 for an easy birdie. I did fat a couple irons on the final two holes, but I still finished the back at a markedly improved 3-over.

Thanks to my finish I feel like I have some momentum, and I am figuring out these irons. If I am striking the ball well, I don’t get super bummed about my score not being where I think it should be. However, because of how my short game generally is they normally correlate and they definitely did today.
